Hello all you home lovers. Her at oohm we have renovated many homes with a “renovate for profit ” criteria, so Belle 2 and I have had to learn how to create a beautiful home on a very limited budget. Today we want to share some tools & handy hints that have helped us, so you too can create a beautiful space in your home. We want you to know that when decorating and designing your home’s interior, it’s not the amount of money you spend that makes good design. Its more about being creative and making a room feel special because of the love you put into your decorating. Believe me, you don’t need to be a designer or artist either. Nor Belle 2 or I started out with such creative talent. We both have always been willing to have a go at DIY. Firstly we seek inspiration and then learn the skills needed along the way.Sure you may make mistakes, but most things can be sorted with a little inventiveness. So draw on your imagination and creativity, set a budget, seek the know how and add in some hard work so you can create the beautiful home you want.
Your Home Should Reflect All You Are!

Add contrast and interest by using different textures, patterns, shades of colour, style & sized accessories in a room. Use fabric, throws,wallpaper & ornaments to bring in contrast to a plain room
Accessorise with colour
Don’t clutter the space, but use accessories that are different shapes and sizes. Infuse old and new, memories and revamps, and you too can achieve a designer look you want.
Secret 1: Seek inspiration!
If your ready to redecorate you need to find inspiration to guide you along the way. Find what you like, but be ruthless. Remember the important aspect of any design is that it reflects who you are and suits your lifestyle and needs. It is what you like that counts.The real trick however, is putting things together in a aesthetically pleasing way to create a sanctuary you’ll enjoy living in everyday. Gather pictures of décor styles & products that you really love. Go through magazines, catalogues, websites & brochures to find what you really want your space to look like. Pinterest and Indulgy are a great resource for finding images of the design style you love.
Take a look at oohms boards for a start – http://www.pinterest.com/oohmhomewares/ . While you’re drooling over magazines or images, you may feel some of the gorgeous looks are out of your reach. Don’t despair. We at oohm believe you don’t have to spend big to get a great look. We know many decorator tricks so let us help you. Another great idea is to visit display homes and showrooms. Take photos. Now go through the images you love and select the ones that are your favourite. Then either create a pin board on your computer or manually by cutting out your images for selecting everything from wall colours to accessories.Stick them all on a piece of cardboard. This becomes your Inspiration or Mood Board. You might find that there is one style or item in particular that really jumps out at you. A single piece can be your focal point to help you create the look and feel of the whole room or even your home. Collect all you love on a mood board
To decorate from this board you could:
+ Find a large old mirror at the tip, market or op shop and paint it gold. Add some timber molding to dress it up if it needs it
+ Do the same for photo frames and look at discount stores for a bargain
+ Add some French accessories like a print of Paris or a mini Eiffel Tower
+ Paint a chest of draws you already have or find one second hand
+ Choose a pink that is soft and warm like – DULUX LEONORA . If you love the look but are not in to the pink then go for a neutral tone like WATTYL’S GEISHA WHITE OR WINTER SKY and add pink with accessories

Secret 2: How Do I Create What I Like?
You need to analyse what you have chosen. Look for a common theme in what you love. Ask yourself is it the particular style you like? i.e.: vintage,French etc or is it a colour you love? From this board I would reflect that the person likes French style decor, with a romantic feel infused with soft pinks. So that, becomes the brief to follow.There are numerous DIY projects available to create this style on a budget.
Consider how much you want to spend to create this look. When you are analysing your board it will give you ideas of what you can afford and what you need to DIY. There are many ways of achieving the look you love and they all have a different price tag. You may be able to afford something new but if you can’t you can still achieve the look. Follow these simple steps and be your own designer:

* Start by taking an inventory of what you already have.
* What can be reused?
* What can you revamp?
* What do you need to replace or purchase? Consider your budget then think can you afford – new? secondhand? Think discount stores, op shops, vintage and market stalls.
