Creating a shared kids bedroom can seem a daunting task, from making it child friendly to keeping it functional. Whether its a room for girls, boys or both, the key is to make it fun and functional and to use the space in the best way possible. Here are some tips and inspiration to help create a fun kids room in your home!
Personal Space

Even in a shared kids room it is important that each child has a little personal space. A little spot for a kids favourite treasures can be created using storage, either next to the bed or under the bed. Installing floating shelves above each bed can also create a spot for each child to keep their favourite books and toys close by. If space permits you may even be able to hang some fun curtains between the beds to create a little privacy. A little bedside table for each bed can also create the much needed personal space and don’t forget to use any space beneath the beds. Although one large area rug looks great in a shared room, a smaller rug for each child can help give them their own little space to play and relax.

Shared Space

It is a great idea to also create a shared work or play space in a shared kids bedroom. Whether its a desk area, reading corner or craft table it is an area where the kids can play and create together. Space is usually tight in a shared room, so making every inch of space functional is important. Fixing book shelves to a little corner of the room creates a great reading spot and uses space that may have been left bare. A joint desk and chairs can be a great shared spot for drawing or homework and a little shared craft table with shelving is the perfect spot to create something wonderful!

Make it Unique and Fun!

A matchy shared kids bedroom does look great, but adding unique and different touches to the room really makes it fun! It doesn’t take much to add special items or trinkets to the room to really make it feel like an inviting space. I love the idea of framing the kids artworks and creating a gallery. These artworks can be tied together by using the same frames or similar coloured frames. Frame beautiful photos to make it personal and add interest. Let the kids choose a quilt cover or cushion for their bed, this will make each bed their own. When it comes to making it a fun space think colour and texture. Bunting, pom poms, colourful rugs, cushions, pillows and lots of bright pictures will make any room feel fun!
If you are creating a shared kids bedroom don’t forget: create a little personal space for each child, create a shared space they can use together, add some unique touches, create as much storage as you can and have fun!
