Cosy Up Your Home For Winter!

by

As the days get colder it’s time to start thinking about ways to cosy up your home for winter. Whether its in the bedroom, living area or even the bathroom it is nice to feel a little cosier as the weather cools down. Here are some simple ways to make it happen!
Rug Up

Rugs are the perfect way to make any room in your home feel warmer and softer under foot. If you have tiles, wooden floors or polished concrete you would know how cold those floors can get in the winter months. Any type of rug will make a room feel much cosier and are a great way to also add colour and texture in your home. The living room is a place where you want to feel warmth, so a large area rug is great for creating that cosy feeling. The kitchen and bathroom are not traditionally rooms where you would find rugs, but it is becoming more common and really does make sense, who wants to stand on a cold kitchen floor while making dinner? I love the idea of layering rugs. Whether it be adding a smaller, softer rug over a larger rug at the side of the bed, or layering a fluffy, soft rug over a large rug in the living room. Its all about choosing the right colours and textures to go with what you already have.

Your bed will be where you want to feel the cosiest! Try to create a cosy bed by working with what you already have. There is no reason to go out and buy all new bedding for winter if you already have a cupboard full of blankets and sheets. Layering up your bed is not only versatile for all seasons, but looks fantastic! Sheets layered with cotton blankets, bedcovers, quilts and doonas will create a beautiful, cosy bed and add texture and colour to your bedroom. If you do want to add more layers to what you already have at home, think soft textiles, knitted throws, faux fur, alpaca blankets and wool underlays. Mixing different patterns on the bed looks great when layering up, while keeping it neutral with layers of white, grey, creams or natural tones is serene and cosy. Adding textural cushions also makes the bed appear fuller and cosier for the winter months.

The cooler weather is a good reason to find cosy spots in your home and make the most of them. Move a chair over to a sunny spot and add cushions and a throw to create a space for relaxing or reading. Put extra layers on the lounge to make it cosier and more inviting during winter. Another idea for creating a cosy spot in your home is to put together a little reading corner for the kids, when it’s too cold to play outside. Lay down a soft rug, add cushions, blankets and books and the kids will be able to snuggle up and read. Look for the corners of the house where the sunshine streams in and a create your cosy corner there!

I like your tip to work with what you already have to make your bed cozier for winter months. I’ll definitely have to invest in some good neutral colors so I can blend them like you. The first thing that I need to get is a wool underlay, because it seems like a good way to keep warm!
