A home office may be for work, but it doesn’t have to be boring. It is a space that needs to be functional and practical, but making it creative is also important. Your surroundings affect how you feel, so for a place of work you need to feel inspired! There are so many ways to make your home office space a little more creative and personal. Here are just a few:
- Create an inspiration board for your home office. Include any images, quotes or artworks that inspire you. This is also a great place to display travel pics, trinkets or anything sentimental. Depending on what your work involves, a mood board can also be the place to display imagery of the work or projects you are working on. Add anything that inspires you.
- Add colour! It doesn’t have to be bold, but adding a little colour to your home office might be helpful for inspiration. Choose artwork, décor items and even furniture to inject a little colour and personality into your home office.
- Think outside the box when it comes to office furniture, although it has be practical and comfortable, it doesn’t necessarily have to be ‘office furniture’. Find a desk or table you love over what is perfectly practical, if this will help you feel inspired! Antique and vintage homewares stores are great places to find those treasured pieces.
- Make it welcoming for everyone. Even though it’s a place to work, making it welcoming to everyone in the house will give it a warmer feel. Add extra seating or furniture to accommodate visitors and make the space feel welcoming. If it’s a home office for more than one person, using a communal table or having work spaces facing each other will give it a collaborative and creative feel.
There is no need to stick to the ‘rules’ or only use office type items in a home office. If you want it to be a creative space it needs to be inspiring, so decorate with items that inspire you. Here are some examples of creative and colourful home offices…
