Summer Dreaming: Scandinavian Summer Houses

by

As we head towards summer I’m dreaming of long warm days and a holiday! I love the idea of a summer house, a place to spend those warmer months with family. In Scandinavian countries often the warmer months are spent in a summer house. These houses are often designed for functionality and to make the most of the long hours of daylight. Traditionally these little cottages are painted red, but the more modern cottages are using colours like black and white to highlight the green landscape. A Scandinavian summer home may not be large in size, but it has all the necessities often centred around an open living area. Large windows and door openings make the most of the sunshine and a white or light coloured interior give the sense of space. The design of these Scandinavian summer homes are really to highlight the surrounding environment and they do this beautifully! They almost blend into the landscape and only leave a small footprint. Here are 10 gorgeous Scandinavian summer houses to have you dreaming of long summer days!
