The look of your home when selling is important to achieving the price you want! Styling your home for sale can make all the difference to the price achieved, as the look of your home in photographs and advertisements will be what entices people to view the property in the first instance. Often a home that isn’t selling is restyled to achieve a sale above and beyond the original asking price. When people look at a property to buy, they imagine themselves and their family members living there, so making your property welcoming and stylish will create emotion in a potential buyer and hopefully compel them to make offers. There are companies that will help style your home for sale, but with the right tips and tricks you can achieve a styled look yourself.
Here are our 10 tips to style your home for sale:
Declutter
Clutter can really affect the look of your home, so when you are selling it is great to make the décor easy on the eye by decluttering. A buyer wants to see how their life can fit into the home, so the less clutter, the easier it is for them to see how they can make the home their own. Clutter looks messy, which can be a real turn off for potential buyers. Although you don’t want your home to be cold and sparse, removing clutter and grouping items together will make your home look more inviting.
Focus on the Key Rooms
When styling your property to sell focus on the key rooms in your home. The rooms that will get the most attention are the kitchen and bathrooms, so having them well presented is key to a successful sale. For example, in the kitchen, keep it tidy, but make it inviting by styling with beautiful ceramics, cook books and greenery. If you have money to spend on updating the kitchen, look at the colour scheme. A previous property we owned had a very outdated kitchen with terracotta coloured cabinetry, so we repainted all the cabinets white with laminate paint and it made a huge difference to the entire look of the home and helped to sell the property shortly after!
Kerb Appeal

Kerb appeal makes all the difference to the first impressions of a home. When a potential buyer pulls up and sees a run down front yard, it doesn’t matter how amazing the inside is, you haven’t grabbed their attention straight away. Creating kerb appeal can be as easy as creating some garden beds or just cleaning up the existing garden. If you want to add a little something extra before selling think about different ways to style the entry, from pot plants, to adding colour to the front door, or building a path.
Get it Done

You know that dripping tap or that light fitting that needs replacing? Now is the time to get it done! When it comes time to sell your home all those odd jobs that you are too busy to do start adding up and can affect the sale. Make the effort to fix these things or replace anything that is broken before your home is on the market and you won’t have to worry about any potential buyers finding any faults with your home, big or small!
Let The Light In

Making your home as light and bright as possible will make your home more inviting when it comes time to sell. Allowing natural light to stream into your home makes any room feel more open and often makes a room appear bigger. If you are having photos taken for your listing make sure that all windows and doors are open and any heavy window coverings are pushed aside. Let your Real Estate Agent know the time of day when your house looks at its best and have the promotional photographs taken then.
Floral Beauty
It is amazing what a difference fresh flowers can make to your home. Having fresh flowers on display when styling your property for sale will give the home life and a fresh smell. Appealing to buyers senses, such as smell and touch is a great way to grab their attention. Whether it’s one big bunch of flowers or placing smaller posies in every room, having fresh flowers at an open house inspection is an easy and affordable way to subtly add appeal to your property.
