This week we shared some small houses with you, so we thought a look at some small backyards would be a good idea! A small backyard or garden is a reality for a lot of people living in the city or in a townhouse or apartment. I have lived in homes with small backyards and sometimes they almost get forgotten. When trying to get the best out of a small yard it’s all about using the space in a clever way. Check out these spectacular small backyards for some inspiration!

This small garden has been cleverly designed for entertaining, with a big seating area and a day bed for relaxing. The lawn and hedges are perfectly manicured, making it an eye catching space!

Great use of a rooftop space to create a garden. The built in day beds add a touch of luxury to the space, while the seating area is perfect for entertaining!

This small backyard is the perfect extension of the home! The same modern style has been used to create the backyard space, sleek furniture, manicured greenery and wood and concrete panels are perfect here.

This relaxing space is like a little oasis! The small hedges and strip of lawn look great, but the most inviting thing in this yard is that gorgeous table setting, What a perfect spot to curl up with a book.

This is the perfect courtyard for a inner city townhouse. By paving most of the space and having no grass the area has been made low maintenance. There is still enough garden space to plant a few vegies and the room for entertaining is perfect.

This little slice of luxury is so inviting. From the entryway to the vine covered walls this space has been finished beautifully. The most exciting thing about this little garden has to be that fireplace! It really creates a focal point and makes this little outdoor space special.

This is another backyard that is really an extension of the living space. Leaving the lawn area quite bare means the kids have a little grassy area to play. Nice simplicity. The big deck perfectly extends straight off the living area, everything on the one level keeps the look streamline.

This small backyard is a clever space! The use of mirrors makes the yard appear bigger, while the curved border of stones add interest. Lovely use of different parts of the yard, creating more than one spot to use for entertaining.

This really is a small space, but has been used so well! From the built in seating to the built in barbeque, every inch of this small backyard has been used. The stairs leading up to a small grassy area are a great way to add another level to the space and the grass adds a touch of greenery.

This space has really been designed and styled well! Covering half the backyard with that lush grass looks fantastic, while the generous entertaining area is practical. The whole space looks well manicured and inviting!
