  •  The Bed

Choosing the right bed and mattress is where money should be spent. A great bed frame and mattress or ensemble is an investment, think about how important a great nights sleep is. Your bed is an item of furniture you are likely to keep for the long term, so don’t feel guilty about spending the money to find exactly what you want.

  • The Lounge

The lounge is one of the most used pieces of furniture and a focal point of the living area, so choose wisely. Spending a little extra on leather or good quality fabric lounges is going to serve you in the long run. The lounge is the base of the living room, so invest in a good one and change it up with cheaper cushions and throw rugs.

  • Area Rugs

A large area rug will be a necessity in a lot of rooms, especially in rooms without carpet. They add great warmth and texture and can help build the look of a room. If you are going to invest in a large rug, go for something timeless and don’t be afraid to spend a little more to get a good quality rug. An area rug in a high traffic area, like the living room, will need to wear well and last so those extra dollars spent will be well worth it!

The dining table is often the heart of the home and serves a multitude of purposes! Spending the money on a good quality, timeless dining table will be a great choice in the long run as it stands up to the wear and tear of everyday use. If you are lucky enough to have an eat in kitchen and the dining table is also being used for food prep, then even more reason to make sure its a good quality one!

Kitchen appliances are one item I think it’s worth spending a few extra dollars on. Buying a good quality fridge, oven and cooktop may seem like its going to cost the earth, but there are many advantages to having the higher quality appliances. Not only will they be more likely to stand the test of everyday use, but often the more expensive appliances are also the more energy efficient, saving you money in the long run!

Trends

  • Trends

Décor trends come and go, so don’t go and spend all your money on trend items that wont be as appealing in a few months time. For example, the metalics trend is everywhere in home décor at the moment, but wont be on trend forever, so spending lots on metallic accessories is not worth the money in the long run. Trends are actually one of the best ways to update your décor without spending a lot, because the trend often trickles down to more affordable stores. Keep your eye out for great accessories that are on trend and wont break the budget!

  • Cushions and Accessories

Cushions and accessories like throw rugs are an easy way to change up the look of a room without breaking the budget. If you are anything like me you will get sick of the cushions on your couch every couple of months! So why spend a lot of money on something that you may want to change up every season? Adding new cushions to the lounge or bed is a great way to add an on trend colour to the room, so keep your eye out at the cheaper chain stores for some great choices!

Kitchenware

Although a set of white dinnerware is not going to date, often the difference between an expensive set and something a little cheaper is hard to spot. Nice serving bowls and cutlery don’t have to cost the earth and you can add some colour and patterns into the mix without feeling guilty that you aren’t going to love them forever! Keep your eye out for some fun designs to add to your kitchenware, there are plenty of affordable and fun choices.

Occasional furniture, like a side table, is a great little addition to a bedroom or living room. Often these are pieces of furniture that you may need to change to suit a new bed or a new lounge or moving to a house that is bigger or smaller. These are the smaller pieces of furniture that you can get away with spending less on. There are some great affordable side stools, tables and coffee tables that look gorgeous and save those dollars!

Hardware

Kitchen cupboard handles, light fittings and door knobs are all items that you can save on. The array of options for home hardware means there are lots of different price points. There is really no need to spend a lot on these hardware finishes, when there are so many great affordable options around. Often light fittings and kitchen handles follow a trend, so when choosing remember they may not be what you like in 5 years time, so spend (or save) wisely.
