I have always loved the idea of a breakfast nook. A little space in the kitchen to sit down to eat or relax, that can also be used for work or homework. There is something cosy and comforting about this space in a kitchen that has always caught my eye.
Not only does a breakfast nook look great, but it is a practical way to use any spare space in the kitchen/dinning area. Depending on the amount of space you have available, you can quite easily turn those spare inches into a breakfast nook, with the use of clever design and the right choice of furniture. Use the space as best as possible, there may even be enough room for a full size dinning table and chairs, creating a casual dinning room for the whole family.
Creating this nook can be done using built in seating, creating a more permanent area and also giving the chance to create extra storage. Window seating is a great way to create a breakfast nook and designing seats that have storage underneath is just an added bonus. Adding a table and extra chairs to the built in seating will be the next step, making sure that the furniture is size appropriate and practical. If built in seating is not an option, a small table and chairs is an even easier way to create the perfect nook. A great way to define the area from the kitchen is my adding a rug and pendant light, to really give the breakfast nook its own space.
A breakfast nook is a great way to add colour to the kitchen and have a little fun with styling and design. Think bright cushions, coloured chairs or a beautiful light fitting to make the space really shine! If the space is big enough adding fresh flowers or greenery is an option and hanging your favourite family photographs can make the area really personal and inviting. If it will be used as a work or homework area, adding a colourful pin board and some fun stationary is a great idea. There are so many design and decorating options for creating a breakfast nook, just by being creative and choosing the right furniture for the space.
