Freshen up Your Home for Spring!

by

The temperature may have dropped again, but that warm weather on the weekend had me dreaming of spring! I’m already thinking of what I can do to get my home ready for spring, getting rid of the winter heaviness and freshening up. It’s such a nice feeling after a spring clean to have everything organised and the change of season is a good opportunity to update your décor or just change things around. Here are some ways to freshen up your home for spring!

1. Declutter

Spring is the perfect time of year to declutter. Even if you don’t need to do a major spring clean, decluttering will make your home feel lighter and brighter. Simplify your styling in places like bedside tables, entry tables and living areas to freshen up. Keeping things simple gives a clutter free feel and means less dusting and cleaning. Have a look at the accessories and objects you have on display and just take one or two things away to start with, then you can go back and re-style until you’re happy. One simple branch or bunch of flowers looks perfect for spring décor, or keep it simple with a potted plant. If you decide to declutter, remember less is more!

3. Large photographic artwork

Large artwork is in! Heading towards spring the gallery wall trend is fading and large graphic or photographic artwork is coming into focus. Getting rid of all those smaller artworks and replacing it with one large work gives a simplified, clutter free feel to a room. There seems to be a move towards large photographic artworks like the beautiful work above, with a simple colour palette. Choosing one large artwork is also a great way to inject a bit of colour into your décor for Spring!

As the weather warms up it’s time to take a layer or two off the bed. Take the heavy quilts and duvets off and add a lighter layer like a bedcover or thin blanket. I love the look of layered bed linen in different textures and colours. Sheets with a bedcover and a light throw look great in different tones of the same colour, or add a blanket in a bright colour to replace a heavy duvet. When layering bed linen think about texture and tones and don’t be afraid to pair different fabrics together like cotton, linen and knits.

It might be a little cliché, but florals in Spring never gets old. There are so many ways to add florals to your décor for spring, whether it be the real thing or a floral print. Go bold, like this floral wallpaper above, or simply add a floral cushion to the mix. Go for a more modern take on florals with a larger print, which looks fantastic on an upholstered chair or bedhead. You will be surprised how well a floral print will match with other prints like stripes and spots, so don’t be afraid to mix it up. When it comes to florals though, I cant go past the real thing, nothing beats a bunch of flowers to freshen up the décor!

Getting organised is the key to a good spring clean. From wardrobes to the pantry it’s all about getting rid of what you don’t need and organising what you do. Get everything you need to organise a space first, from labels to coat hangers, boxes and baskets, this will make the job easier. As the weather warms up it’s a great time to organise your wardrobe and start putting the winter clothes away and bring summer clothes out. Investing in shelving and drawers in a wardrobe is always money well spent. The same goes for other rooms of the house, getting organised means being prepared with storage options and getting rid of what you don’t need.
