                                  What you will need:

White or cream cushion covers – Gurli from Ikea or any other discount store

Acrylic Paint

Tints for Paint

Scotchblue painters tape

Stencil – either make one or buy an existing pattern

White foam roller

Stiff Stencil brush (for making the faux trim around the edge)

Drop sheet to paint on

A piece of test fabric – always test your paint on the fabric first

The Method
If you’ve never stenciled before, here are a few helpful tips:

1. Lay and tape paper over your table, tape the sham down, center the stencil and use painters tape to secure your stencil in several places to avoid it moving

2. Dip your brush in paint and wipe off excess on a paper towel before starting, you want a small amount of paint on the brush to avoid it going underneath the stencil.

3. Hold the stencil down with your other hand to prevent it from lifting up
4. Carefully line up the next row so that the pattern stays consistent.
5. Heat set the pattern by placing a white cloth over it and ironing it on a low setting.

Sarah started with two striped designs. This is an easy pattern to create. For the diagonal stripes you don’t even have to measure. Simply determined the width between stripes and offset it with two pieces of tape to keep the line straight and then lay the next piece of tape.If you feel more comfortable measuring, do so.

The most important thing is to press the tape down firmly so that the paint doesn’t seep underneath the lines. Then mix up your paint, dip your roller in, rolling off the excess to stop seepage and roll away from the painter’s tape to avoid build up around the tape.
Let this dry and you can create an inexpensive trim by taping off the edge and brushing on a contrasting colour.
