Ok so its not really a room, but a study nook can be a clever way to utilise space! Having spent a lot of time in the last six months house hunting, I have realised that a lot of homes have these study nooks, or undefined spaces. I did notice that a lot of the spaces I saw weren’t being utilised to their full potential and instead were often used as storage or just let bare. A study nook can actually be a great central spot in the home for everyone to use for work, study or homework, the key is having the space set up so that it can be used properly. Here are a few quick tips on setting up a study nook and some great examples of clever study nooks!
- Think about where the study nook is in regards to furniture and space. For example if it’s in a hallway or narrow space keep the furniture simple and streamline and make sure it is kept clutter free.
- Built in desk and shelving is often worth the investment for a study nook, so that space can be used properly. Having a desk customised to fit the space perfectly and shelving installed will give the nook purpose.
- Storage is definitely important for a study nook! If you are using the space for work or for bills and paperwork invest in some good storage options, whether it’s drawers, boxes and folders for the shelves or desktop storage.
- There are some clever ways to hide the study nook, if you prefer. Installing a door that you can pull across when you aren’t using the space means you can hide any mess.
- Think of fun ways to make the most of the space. Things like chalkboard paint behind the desk, a magnetised surface to hang pictures and kids artworks or a pin board to display family photos will make the space more inviting!
