Black and White Kitchens to Suit Every Style!

by

Black and white never seems to go out of style when it comes to home décor! Its a classic colour combination that suits any room in the house, particularly the kitchen. White kitchens seem to be the most popular pick, but adding black to the mix can create a little bit of glamour. The use of black and white in the kitchen has a dramatic effect, but there are many ways to use this combination of colours and create the style of kitchen you are after. Whether your kitchen is big or small, black and white will work and by choosing the right finishes and combinations a black and white kitchen will never go out of style.

Tips for black and white kitchens:

  • Size is important when adding black to the mix. If your kitchen is small don’t over do black, it will make the space appear smaller. For a smaller kitchen choose black for the smaller surface areas like the bench tops, instead of the cupboards, or do the lower cabinets in black and forgo overhead cabinets.

  • Natural light makes a difference with the use of darker colours, if you are planning to use black in a smaller space, make sure the room gets enough natural light so the space wo’tt feel to dark.

  • Add natural elements! Finishes like wood and stone work perfectly with black and white and will add texture and interest to the black and white palette. For example wooden cabinetry mixed with white bench tops and a black splashback is a great combination.

  • Think about the finishes, often the finishes will give the kitchen the look you are after. If you are wanting a glamorous black and white kitchen you may want to choose a finish for the cabinetry, bench tops or splashback that has a shine to it, or add an element of marble. If you are after a more relaxed black and white look go for a finish that has a more textured, matte appearance.

  • If you aren’t into taking a risk with décor, just add a touch of black in the accessories. Whether it’s lighting, bar stools or tap ware there are plenty of options to add a touch to a white kitchen.
