The Beach Shack: Bathroom Inspiration

by

I shared our new build with everyone a couple of weeks ago on the blog and I shared a brief outline of my décor inspirations for the bathroom. We have ordered all our tiles and are now just choosing bathroom fittings and accessories, so I thought I would give a closer look at what we are doing for the main bathroom!

When choosing colours and tiles for the bathroom I have to say my Pinterest addiction definitely helped! I already had a clear idea of what I wanted in the bathroom, from all my hours scouring bathroom pictures, so when it came to picking the tiles, fittings and accessories I wanted, it was a fairly quick process. I have decided on a large charcoal tile for the floor in a matte finish. The bathroom is quite small, so I was worried about using a dark coloured tile, but there is going to be a lot of white in the bathroom, so the charcoal will balance it out nicely. The wall tiles are a large matte white tile, which I chose after seeing in another home by our builder, I really love the matte look! We are having a niche in the wall of the shower, which will be great for storage, this will be in a matte white herringbone mosaic and the splashback behind the vanity will be the same.

The bathroom vanity was probably the hardest choice I had to make! There are so many choices, but they can also be very expensive, so when it came to choosing something for our bathroom I had to search to find something that was close to the look I wanted, but was also within budget. There are so many beautiful custom made options for vanities, but these were outside our budget, so we bought a wood look vanity from Beaumont Tiles, which was on sale, so we got a great price, while still achieving the look we wanted! As mentioned before the bathroom is quite small, so when choosing the vanity we had to consider the size in relation to where it sits in the bathroom. There is not a lot of space between the shower entrance and where the vanity will be, so we have chosen a vanity that isn’t too big and is wall hung.

The shower is large and has a small wall on one side, so we have decided not to have any glass panels, to make the space more open. We may put a glass panel in later on, depending if we find we need one. The shower floor will be slightly recessed with a long drain along one side, so water splashing all over the floor shouldn’t be a problem, we hope! We have chosen a large round shower head and a wall mixer for the tap. For the bath we decided to spend a little more and get a freestanding bath, it adds a little touch of luxury to the bathroom. Although there are some amazing designer tap ranges, we decided to cut costs on the tapware and spend it on better quality tiles and bathtub. We have chosen all out tapware from who bathrooms ( http://www.whobathrooms.com.au). What we hope to achieve is a functional yet stylish bathroom on a budget, which the whole family can enjoy!
