A few weeks ago we did a story on a beautiful bathroom and laundry makeover in a 1950’s era home, today we are showing you the kitchen makeover in the same home! As you will see this makeover is just as clever!
The original kitchen in this house was an eye sore when the owners moved in, so they knew it wouldn’t be long before the renovation would need to start! The original kitchen consisted of white cupboards with a blue bench top and a multi-coloured feature tile. The original layout of the kitchen didn’t use the space to its full potential, so the owners took that into account when renovatiing.
During the renovation the door that you can see to the right in the kitchen was built in, allowing for more bench space to be built along the wall, extending the size of the kitchen. New white kitchen cupboards were installed, along with a solid jarrah wood bench top. A new sink, fixtures and appliances were installed to finish off the renovation. As you will see below the results are terrific – small spend, big improvement!

As you can see in the picture above the by taking out the old door and creating a longer bench it has also allowed for an extra cupboard and drawer space. Choosing the glass doors for the top cupboards is clever and adds interest to the classic style kitchen, while also making the kitchen feel a little more open. In a small space bulky overhead cupboards can make the space feel even smaller, so the glass front cupboards prevent this. The owners chose an traditional style tap, which works perfectly here and kept the appliances stainless steel.
They stayed with a classic look, like the bathroom and laundry renovation. This helps the home flow and is in keeping with the older style of the home, but ‘lifts’ the look on a small budget. Their choice of white with the wooden bench top, is a kitchen which won’t date over time and therefore a perfect choice for re-sale of the property in the future!
