HORNBY CONDO
The client wanted a more open plan that worked well for entertaining.Though the condominium was in good condition, it was dated and quiet bland, needing a face lift. So it was decided to create a contemporary look by changing features and colours as well as doing some renovations to the kitchen and living areas. To begin the renovation in the condominium, all of the living area had to be gutted. In all rooms we took out the base boards under the windows, removed floor coverings, and blinds. Then underfloor heating was installed. Next, the whole place was painted from top to bottom – ceiling and walls in a soft white. New timber floating floors in gorgeous white oak were installed, and new furniture and blinds to create a contemporary look. The client liked red so it became the highlight colour using it in tiles and splash back as well as soft furnishings.
Condominiums have very different challenges to detached homes. Access is never easy in an apartment block. Having to remove rubble in a confined space and dispose of it immediately via a lift, not being able to leave any debris or mess in the hall or common areas, not being able to make too much noise for long periods due to the neighbours, then carting all of the new building materials up to the condominium via a lift is a very delicate operation.
Opening up the apartment by removing walls created a feel of space and a more practical layout. Adding good storage was essential for the client who loved the finished interior. the value of the condominium increased by 30%.
