When the owners of this 1950’s brick home decided to renovate they knew it would be a big job! The main bathroom and laundry were completely outdated and crying out for a makeover. Done on a very low budget with standard range tiles and vanity unit the bathroom and laundry have had a complete overhaul and the results are amazingly different providing great functionality and more light.
The main bathroom was still in the original condition when the owners bought the house. This meant white floor tiles that had a grey swirl through them, with a border of dark blue tiles around the floor. The shower had white enamel tapes and a completely different feature tile, and the pedestal basin was in bad shape. The walls were in desperate need of a coat of paint.

To update this tired old bathroom the owners chose a classic look. Large charcoal floor tiles were complimented by white subway tiles on the walls and a feature wall behind the shower of small charcoal tiles. The pedestal basin was replaced with a new vanity featuring a beautiful solid jarrah wood bench top.

Classic basin and tap ware was chosen along with a vanity which has great storage. The classic finish on the bathroom renovation works perfectly in this older style home. The owners have been clever in keeping colours neutral and choosing good quality fittings.
The laundry had about the same amount of appeal as the old bathroom. It looked outdated and tired. The same tiles were in the laundry with the same blue trim. It had an old laundry tub and the white enamel tap ware and odd trim tile as in the bathroom.

For the laundry makeover the owners chose the same colour scheme as the new bathroom, creating a great flow between the rooms. A large work bench was added in the laundry, in the same solid Jarrah as seen in the bathroom. With that added bench space and a large storage cupboard opposite, not only does it look beautiful, but it is perfectly practical. A new laundry sink was installed in the bench and classic style tap ware chosen, again in keeping with the style of the home.

The beautiful renovation of these rooms is a lesson in keeping with the overall look and feel of a home. The way that the owners have gone with a classic, timeless look in the bathroom and laundry, perfectly compliments the 1950’s style home. Not only are these rooms now much more liveable for this young family, but when it comes time to sell, these classic looks will be a crowd pleaser!
