When a young couple from Brooklyn decided they wanted to make the move to the country they were looking for something with character and that is exactly what they found in this 1850’s farmhouse, in the Hudson Valley, New York. The couple asked designers Tara and Percy from Jersey Ice Cream Co to update the home with modern touches, without loosing the character of the farmhouse. I just had to share this home when I came across it on Remodelista!
The décor is beautifully updated using a soft colour palette with texture to add warmth, a modern farmhouse look. The décor doesn’t overwhelm the architecture of the farmhouse, letting the old bones of the house shine! There are many touches of aged wood, including the upstairs floorboards, which really give the farmhouse character.
Original features, like the wide plank floors, exposed beams and built in cabinets were kept and updated, the main aim for the designers was to just pull the home together and give it the modern touches it needed. What we love so much about this updated farmhouse is the way décor items work together to create the overall look of the home. Décor and furniture were found anywhere from vintage stores to Target, once again showing that any look can be achieved within budget, by mixing décor from luxe to less. So snuggle up and feast your eyes on our house of the week!
